Snapshot Backups Discontinued - Effective August 6th
On August 6, 2026, Elestio discontinued the snapshot backups option. This option was available with Support Plans Level 2 and Level 3, in the Backups section of your services.
From that date, the option is removed for all services, new and existing.
Why we made this change
- Better backup options are available. Automated remote backups, local backups and external S3 backups cover the same needs with a more reliable and consistent approach.
- Snapshots were not consistent across providers. They relied on each cloud provider's own snapshot feature, so they worked differently from one provider to another, and most providers did not support them at all.
Backup options available
These options remain available in the Backups section of your services:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Automated Remote Backups (Borg) | Incremental, deduplicated backups of your data, sent to another datacenter in the same continent as your service. |
| Manual Local Backups | Quick backups stored on your service, which you can download or restore later. |
| Automated External Backups (S3) | Backups sent to your own S3 bucket (AWS S3 or any S3-compatible provider), so you own your backups directly. |
tip
If you used snapshot backups, check that your services are covered by at least one of the options above. See Backups for how they fit together in a 3-2-1 backup strategy.
